And this was my second Almacenista sherry – again sourced by Lustau. A classic dry oloroso sherry, with lovely sweet flavour, but the refreshing dry palate. Decent complexity and length, with plenty of ‘rancio’ cheesy / creamy / buttery flavour on the finish. Two consistent notes: deep amber colour with a green tinge to the rim (indicating ‘real’ age). Complex nose of caramel, walnuts, cream and dried orange peel, opening into Christmas cake, cinnamon, and ultimately vanilla. On the palate, darker – burnt caramel, espresso, walnuts and dried orange peel, with a long, vanilla and rancio finish.
