Good, but perhaps not as good as my raised expectations anticipated. Pale ruby core, fading to a wide, tawny rim. Medium-intensity almost ‘perfumed’ bouquet, with some sweet strawberry hints underneath a complex layer of gingerbread, caramel and cinnamon spice. The quality of this wine was on the palate. Very elegant, smoothly integral tannin, structure and alcohol, around a warm, sweet and good-length flavour of fruit and spicey chocolate notes. Good with chocolate dessert! Will see how it has evolved in 5 years, with a second bottle for my parents’ 40th Wedding Anniversary…!
