Whilst visiting Riquewihr, Dad and I stopped in at Hugel’s excellent tasting room, and this was a good example of a fully-mature, rich Pinot Gris, so I bought one. Opened blind for David’s 60th birthday, this came up to scratch. Honeyed maturity notes over ripe, sweet-spiced quince fruit. Golden. Full bodied and medium-dry (32 g/L RS apparently), giving pleasant, rounded richness, without being overdone, or overly alcoholic. Much enjoyed by all. HJH is the least sweet of Hugel’s ‘sweet’ range, below VT and SGN.
