My first Etna Rosso, and I immediately understood what all the fuss is about – weird and wonderful! I still don’t get Etna Bianco, but Rossos are different in a great way. And it seems Terre Nere are amongst the best. This is best characterised as a pale, Pinot Noir-like appearance and weight, but with a distinctive blend of Maraschino cherry aromatics with smoky, volcanic minerality – truly. Sweet cranberry and Maraschino fruit with quite firm, slightly grainy tannic structure. Quite crisp acidity. Wild and entertaining.
