This Riserva served beside Fontodi’s regular Chianti Classico. This had more density, length and overt oak. Dense, deep ruby with a garnet tinge. Wood-like oak overtones (lighter toast?). Subtle, ripe, red fruit beneath – restrained. Some dried cherry notes. Pepper spice, and some earthy notes emerge. Medium-full body. Spicy, peppery red cherry. Pronounced, very grainy Sangiovese tannic structure. Smoky, gravelly mineral finish. Very savoury. Long. Hides its 15% ABV well!
