The highlight of a Ridge dinner at Planet of the Grapes, with Eric Baugher, who leads day-to-day winemaking, and was very interesting to talk to – who knew Monte Bello is often de-acidified?! A cool vintage. Fully mature. Deep garnet; brick rim. Mature soy, mushroom and fresh leather over dried cherry. Cedar oak touch, then herbal green capsicum emerges. Fresh palate: cassis and some soy. Bright acid, medium body and gravelly mineral. Fair length.
