Plenty of colour, and bright, pure fruit typical of Kiwi Pinot. But also with a gravelly minerality that perhaps is indicative of Central Otago. Less earthy than Martinborough, and crisper acidity. Sweetness and brightness of fruit, coupled with lower acidity differentiate from any Burgundy. Subtle nose of perfumed, strawberry fruit, with gentle coal-smoke, oak-spice (chilli) and some gravel hints. Ripe, round, red fruit – a little crunchy but pure. Then mid-palate smokiness and gravelly savouriness. Tight tannic grip through mineral finish. Moderate, but refreshing streak of acidity.
