Picked up whilst ‘exploring’ The VineYard in Dorking. My first Mallorcan wine, from more-or-less the only DO (Binissalem), and the only major producer. Modern, well made and definitely worth seeking out. After trying it, I found the blend to include 55% of the local Mantonegro variety, and 20-odd % of Cabernet Sauvignon, which explains the blackcurrant note. This might be more interesting with 65% local and less Cabernet? Medium+ ruby core with a narrow, garnet rim. Rich nose of smoky, sweet oak (caramel, cinnamon, Demerara, clove), then graphite, earth and slatey minerality, around a core of slightly jammy blackcurrant, blackberry and raspberry fruit. Quite rich plum and smoked mineral flavours, with some sweet spice, vanilla, and ripe, red & black fruit. Balanced, with gently grippy tannin on the long finish. Good drinking now, but has 3-5 years more, comfortably.
