One of the random Australian wines in the DI staff shop which looked interesting. Actually part of Beringer Blass / Fosters, I think. Deep purple-garnet, fading to a garnet rim. On the nose, initially, cedar and leather notes, over soft, integrated, black fruit aromas. Opened into “warm” spicy notes with a hint of roast meat. Soft tannin. Palate of blackberry (as suggested by the back-label), with cocoa and vanilla on the good length finish (I thought French oak – turned out to be a mix). Slightly varnished notes also. Overall pretty nice & interesting drinking. Could have had a hint more tannin & acidity to balance.
