Found this in The Vineyard a couple of years back – Roda’s first vintage, so a bit of history. An inauspicious vintage, which perhaps shows through in the lightness – and in the fact that this was moving towards the end of its life. But still, a creditable effort, and a pleasant, mature Rioja. Mid garnet, with some bricking at the rim. Initially minted, then opened into Demerara sugar, cinnamon, meat and balsamic, over dried red cherry fruit. Fresh leather and baked earth. On the palate, delicate red cherry, crisp acidity, light tannin, medium body. Some balsamic and fresh leather. Fairly long.
