Pretty good, and classically-styled Chateauneuf from a producer I’d not come across before. An exam wine. What was particularly noteworthy was that the alcohol was well-held at 15.5%. Somewhat perfumed, broad, slightly meaty baked earth, soy and garrigue notes, over ripe but not jammy cherry fruit. Ripe dried strawberry and cherry, with layers of savoury garrigue, soy, chilli and pepper spice, with a touch of oak. Moderate, quite juicy acidity, some fine background tannins, and some flavour persistence. Not bad. Relatively pale ruby, with just some garnet glints.
