In the Riesling line-up there were several from Selbach-Oster, which were a pleasure. This was my first Bernkasteler Riesling, and it showed very well. Meeting Barbara Selbach a couple of months later, I got a sense of their quality orientation. Mid gold. Baked stone notes over delicate lemon sherbet and stone fruit aromatics. On the palate, fresh peach and preserved lemon juice, then lime. Bright, lively, racy acidity. Great balance between flavour, RS and acidity, and good persistence of lemon on the finish. Something reserved and savoury on the palate – minerality?
