Courtesy of Ruth playing the blind tasting game with me, this was a fascinating blind trial. After some guesswork & guidance, I got as far as a Southern French blend, but this being apparently a natural / low SO2 wine, it had a very unusual (confusing) nose. Initially, a mix of marmite and animally notes, which was hard to get past. Its dark fruits and smoky sweetness, coupled with a relatively soft tannic structure suggested Southern Rhône, or Languedoc. Interesting and drinkable, but I wouldn’t seek this out in a hurry.
