Port and cheese on Easter Saturday after a red-wine-fuelled venison dinner in the Lake District. Overall, a very nice Port, reflecting the quality of the vintage, but perhaps past its best – with the spirit component being more noticeably prominent. Medium tawny. Cinnamon, vanilla and other sweet spice notes over some light red fruit – strawberry perhaps. Some spiritiness on the nose. Sweet, with velvety tannins and decent, balancing acidity. However, the depth of fruit and spice flavours isn’t quite enough to balance the alcohol.
