Bought this after tasting Hidalgo-La Gitana’s full range with Javier Hidalgo at POTG, and this was the finest. Medium-depth amber, with tawny glints. Broad caramel rim, fading to an olive tinge. Medium+ intensity, complex nose of vanilla & rancio-laced hazelnut. Then marzipan touches, sweet cinnamon spice notes and some cocoa powder hints. Dry, but rich, and rounded palate with more hazelnut, some cooked lemon touches, vanilla, and an underlying salty note. Oak spiciness comes through the long, persistent finish. More subtle rancio character there too. Overall very well-balanced, with alcohol perfectly integrated, and a rounded character that makes this appealing and more-ish. Bravo!
