A Nebbiolo from a DOC on the Piemontese side of the Val d’Aoste border, that I’d not come across before the POTG guys recommended it. Overall, a good wine, in the elegant – almost Pinot Noir – style of Nebbiolo. But ultimately lacking some complexity and length to be a £50+ wine. Pale garnet. Broad rim showing some brick. Quite intense nose: sweet cherry, touch of balsamic, gentle, subtle oak spice, a hint of orange and dried herb. Medium+ intensity smoky / tarry red cherry, coming through to a quite crisp acidity, citrus finish. Tannins very fine-grained and well managed – elegant. Only medium(+) length though.
