SJ and I opened this with dinner, as it was most likely to be the best from an odd mixed case of ready-to-drink (or some might agree over-the-hill in several cases) odds & ends that I won from the Vintners’ Company, as the Hors Concours prize for the top non-trade Diploma graduate. I wasn’t disappointed – a nicely matured, toasty, slightly nutty, ‘popcorn’ Pouilly-Fuissé, but with a nice ripe yellow peach and lemon fruit. Touch of minerality and pleasant ripe lemon acidity, alongside more toasty notes. Quite Meursault-like, which is fortunate, given SJ’s preferences!
