This was then designed to be the centrepiece of Mum’s 60th – a 60 year old Madeira. And it performed pretty well too. And will probably continue to do so for ages, in spite of being opened! Amber core, showing a green-gold rim. On the nose, the most distinctive feature was a strong walnut character, supported by chocolate and some raisin / spice / cakebread character. On the palate, the classic powerful acidity gave a ripe lemon flavour, enveloped again by walnut, chocolate and cocoa notes. The fruitiness allowed it to match well with the acidity of an apple & red-berry strudel. Good.
