So, my 2007 New Year’s resolution (the only one) was to drink more white wine, and finally drinking Grüner Veltliner was top of the list. Thus, on a rainy January Saturday I finally found this in the Pont de la Tour wine shop. Very glad I did – the ‘zing’ of a Riesling, complexity of a Pinot Gris, and the body & ‘sweetness’ of a well-rounded Chardonnay. Pale yellow-gold with green glints. Initially an odd ‘balloon rubber’ nose, but this progressively developed into the renowned white pepper (check with my pepper pot), over pear fruit, almond, some gentle buttered toast and some (nice) tinned peas. Lemony citrus palate with some creaminess. Moderate-crisp acidity, medium-full bodied. Fresh and long with some grapefruit bitterness at the finish. Good.
