A number of people had recommended this as ready for good Christmas drinking, and a bargain on a Majestic deal. But, having drunk the 2001 in a bar a month or so before and realised that the 2001 was way too young, I was not 100% convinced. Didn’t need to worry, as this 1997 was absolutely spot-on, as recommended. Mid garnet core – nicely mature. Subtle smoky cigar box notes over pure blackcurrant fruit. Well integrated, smooth tannin around a savoury, smoky palate. Good length, and an enjoyable part of the case of wine we collectively drank between the 10 cousins at my flat on 29th.
