After the deflation of the 1999 Oratoire des Papes, this much cheaper Majestic offering restored my belief. Though not going to set the world on fire, was nevertheless enjoyably pleasant drinking. At opening, an intensely animally (brett?) nose, but gradually superseded by chilli pepper and earth, cranberry and raspberry jam notes. Pale garnet with a narrow brick rim – surprisingly low colour / extraction for the vintage. Chewy tannin and moderate-low acidity. Caramel sweetness and toasty-warm notes on the palate. Fair length.
