2 for 2 for Schlumberger’s 1997 Kitterlé Grands Crus: Pinot Gris and Riesling both tremendously disappointing. Mid-gold / straw colour. Slight aromas of white flowers and a touch of lime are wrapped-into petrolly notes and somewhat toasty oak, to be reminiscent of prunes in a jar. Not well brought together. Thick texture but undefined – slightly rubbery? Acidic dryness in flavour. Overall not wholly appealing to any one sense. NOT good value for money, especially. So 2 bad for 2 tried: only the Gewurztraminer to go for the poor-quality hat-trick! Scared.
