A first chance to taste Kumeu River’s wines, and they’re certainly aiming for quality. Characterised by new oak, ripe, but linear fruit on the palate, with bright, zippy acidity. Similar aromatic profile to the Vasse Felix, but with riper palate fruit and slightly more new oak. Medium gold. Restrained but fruity on the nose – underlying ripe greengages. Subtle toast, and some mint or fennel herb. Zippy ripe lemon flavour, with clean, bright fruit – some yellow peach and cream notes. The zippy, bright acidity is particularly noteworthy, but no ‘hard’ minerality to it like Puligny.
