Bought this several years ago whilst visiting the Roussillon winery (which I cycled 50km to), with Mum. But it took that long to find the right occasion – in this case, après ski in Argentière with Katy, Pete, and particularly Kev – who’s a 1980 baby, likes sweet things, and drinks. Perfect. A pale-medium garnet, showing broad tawny at the rim. Distinct rancio buttery note around sweet spice complexity and dried peel fruit. Sweet, but not excessively so, with beautiful balance and length. Slight cocoa powder notes on the palate suggested a chocolate match, but it wasn’t sweet enough: fruit cake was a better fit. Bravo! Good stuff.
