After revisiting the ’99 Clos des Ursules and ’99 Sterling Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon with a venison main (both still on form – the Sterling surprisingly youthful still), we closed out with this that I bought at the vineyard (it isn’t sold outside New Zealand). A deeper gold than I was expecting, with (from memory) preserved lemon and marmalade botrytis character. A pleasant finish, even if it wouldn’t necessarily stand up to a German equivalent. Good acidity kept it fresh, and the half-bottle disappeared almost instantly
