A bit of serendipity and comedy value, this one: it was there, so I bought it, then figured it could close out the food & wine matching event. Turned out (unsurprisingly) to be past its best – hollowing out, flavour-wise – but nevertheless drinkable, for a wine as old as me! Tawny, rusty colour with a medium tawny rim. Less intense nose (and palate) than I’d expect from a beerenauslese – tea and some orange peel, with creamy fruit notes. Some sweetness, but clear acidity dominates the orange-cream palate. A bit short. A pretty good match to mini, Amaretto-flavoured trifle, though!
