First of a case of anniversary Rieussec 75s, broached on my birthday at Planet of the Grapes, with Nicolas Jaboulet. A pretty good wine, though this bottle coming towards the end of its life, with a touch of shortness. Bottom of neck in the bottle. Quite deep amber, almost copper. Very attractive aromatics of beeswax, ginger, grilled apricot notes and baked oranges. Quite intense and complex. The aromatics are the highlight. On the palate, sweet, but not overly so – less than 100 g/L residual wouldn’t surprise. Well-balanced acidity. Medium bodied, and with a medium intensity orange / apricot palate. Medium length at best, shows the wine’s decline. [Later note: 2nd bottle had more density and length – showing both the variation and potential of my remaining 10 bottles!]
