Lovely. Another really good wine from this producer, and clear evidence that the 2002 vintage is excellent. Earthiness I’ve become familiar with in the few Gevrey-Chambertins I’ve had. Light-to-medium depth ruby with a thin garnet rim emerging. Perfumed fruit with red cherry coming through, but that earthy, smoky note comes over, with cinnamon / sweet spice hints. Touch of oak: cocoa, coconut and a welcome herb note too – sage or rosemary. Complex. Juicy redcurrant and red cherry with acidity balancing fruit but with enough body to give richness. Tannins ripe and medium-weight, but not yet hitting silkiness. This is only just hitting its stride and could improve again in 5 years. Long, with smoky, spicy touches on the finish.
