Bought a case en primeur, and well worthwhile – albeit likely to mature early due to the weather profile – it’s definitely more intensely sweet with lower acidity than many Sauternes I’ve tried. On the occasion of Paul’s 40th, it seemed appropriate to crack the case, and Katy & I broke the first bottle to test it out! Burnished gold colour. Pronounced nose of crystallised ginger, botrytis, touches of marmalade, quince and sweet vanilla. Powerful, full-bodied, sweet palate with more spicy ginger and preserved oranges, with a very notable creaminess to the vanilla-laced mid-palate. Its only fault is less-than-piercing acidity. Can’t believe Nicolas were trying to charge £75 for it though…
