Not a big-name Rioja in UK at all, but bought in Madrid airport on the recommendation of the “Guia Penin”, the Spanish equivalent of the Guide Hachette. A good recommendation. A well-integrated Rioja, where the oak-ageing of the Reserva process doesn’t dominate the fruit and flavour. Deep red, with slight brick-red edges. Aroma of toast, mocha / coffee and prunes. Lightly oaky / vanilla flavour over (I think) redcurrant – mid-to-full bodied, but with fresh acid finish. Quite long. Nice drinking.
