3rd time lucky for Schlumberger!! And the one I was most nervous of – the Gewurztraminer. I shouldn’t have been. A really enjoyable and high quality, complex wine. Deep golden colour. Initial aromas pure lychee – classic Gewurz. But then opened up into a toasty, brioche-laden aroma with some preserved marmalade-fruit notes. Lots of glycerine – thickness and a demi-sec flavour of apricot fruit and buttery notes. A dry lick at the finish. Overall lovely – the best Gewurz I’ve tasted since a well-aged ’92 Dom. Weinbach. A pretty good match for warm mince pies too!
