We followed this with Burgundy, which – being quite savoury, and with slightly raw tannic grip on the finish – was harder just to sit down and drink. The bottle wasn’t finished either. Pale garnet core, with a rose-tawny rim. An ephemeral nose of milk chocolate truffles (!). Initially silky on the palate, but the tannins build through to that slightly ‘chewy’ finish. Savoury flavours. Better on the nose.
