Another from the Optimor mixed case, and from a winery well-rated by Robert Parker. Initially, I thought this might be an overblown ‘taster’s’ wine but no – this got better with time. Overall, very enjoyable across 3 days. Black purple opaque core with an inky rim. Intense nose of blackberry, caramel and toast with some cinnamon. After 1-2 days, this added chocolate & aromatic (liquorice?) complexity, with coffee and vanilla. Medium-low acidity, moderate tannin but not exceptionally structured. Quite sweet & smooth fruit – blackberry or crème de cassis – actually blackcurrant jam on buttered toast! Very glycerine-loaded texture with good, mouth-coating persistence.
