Love it when Majestic extend their seasonal promotion to fine wines (down from £60). Got 2 of these, so I can see how it evolves, but this followed the 1978 Castillo Ygay (out of place in the book – the Sassicaia label). Great wine – no doubt – and a fantastic match for pasta / pizza with tomato, black olive and pancetta sauce I reckon! Initially roast meaty notes, with kidney beans (right call, Rob!), then developed the tomato sauce & black olive notes. Fresh acidity is surprising and balances the wine beautifully. Not massive tannin, so not sure how long this will age (2-5 years?). Similar flavours to the nose, and really shifting complexity. Good length. Great!
