On reflection, a bit of a ‘tasters’ wine rather than a ‘drinkers’, perhaps, as its weight made the second glass a bit hard work. Nevertheless, ready now and very enjoyable (not dissimilar to Mount Veeder). Deep ruby-garnet core & narrow rim. But the nose leaps 1 foot out of the glass! Overt woody, coconut developing into darker chocolate, some cedary / cigar / tobacco notes over plummy fruit. Slightly weird but nice fresh-grilled macaroni cheese notes at the glass’ edge! Rich mouthfeel: integrated tannins that gently bite through the finish. Pretty long and quite concentrated. Plum and damson notes to a savoury palate, with a lot of oaky wrap-around. Serve cool?
