Wow! A really, very pleasant surprise. Also bought from Tracey’s Mum’s place near Nahant, where the guy had described it as a eucalyptus-style classic Napa Cab. I’d therefore been worried that it might be a little overpowering in the way that the Heitz 1997 had been somewhat. But no – instead a perfectly matured, well-knitted and balance Cabernet Sauvignon that coupled ease-of-drinking with good complexity of flavour. Deep, opaque garnet core with wide brick-to-brown rim. Initially subdued oak aromas that took on more banana qualities, but most impressively a lovely core of slightly jammy berry fruit, with cocoa and coffee complexity. Rich fruit and coffee flavours with long, spicy cocoa finish, and a beautiful balance of gentle tannin and perfect acidity!
