This one was chosen for its probable fit to 65% cocoa solids hazelnut & salt chocolate. And a pretty good match too. Though, as ever, such a good Malbec from a great producer would be a good steak wine. Anyhoo, quite pronounced blackberry notes with meaty overtones are accompanied by French oak spice, including cocoa powder. It’s this note that makes this work with chocolate. Moreover, the black fruit and cinnamon palate has a medium, chalky (oak?) tannin structure that works with the dryness of dark chocolate. Separating out the chocolate match, this remains a very nice wine.
