So, continuing the Katy / Whippet ’79 theme, this was served with roast lamb. 1979 wasn’t a great year for Bordeaux, so this was always going to be getting on a bit, and so it proved. Clearly a wine backed by the quality of the Latour team, but fading a touch. Tawny rim and mid-density colour. Some classic cedar & pencil lead notes and still some dried blackcurrant residual fruit. Tannins well matured but still firm in the background, but the acidity is quite prominent, which though refreshing, needs balancing fruit density to be a great wine.
