Dropped by Carrick on the recommendation of the woman in the wine shop in Cromwell. An excellent spot for lunch I suspect, and another of Bannockburn’s finest. I decided to get an older vintage so that this would be ready to drink on the wedding. We drank this at Mary’s parents’ place, the evening after the wedding, and very pleasant it was too. Touch of dried leaf and mushroom development, over sweet spice, dried cherries and hints of smoke and vanilla on the nose. Soft, silky tannins that are ripe and mature. Concentration of peppery black fruit on the palate, with a slightly creamy touch. Good length too. Nice.
