The easiest label ever to get… straight from the hand-labelling the team were doing when we visited the estate! Unus is Mendel’s top wine, after tiny production Finca Remota. 65% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. The intent is to make a long-living wine but which is complex even when young. Deep black purple. Deep nose. Almost toasted bread. Subtle spice. Black cherry and berry fruit. Perfumed violet lifted note and oak spice emerge in the glass. Rich, full-ish body. Rounded, full, smoky fruit – coal smoke. Quite firm, but ripe tannin. Long. Touch of warming alcohol at the finish, but overall very finely crafted, and carries freshness too.
