Drank just a couple of days after opening J. L. Chavy’s Perrières, and in a line-up of 3 Puligny 1er Cru 2011s, alongside Referts and Folatières, what was noteworthy was the degree of similarity with the Chavy. Terroir indeed! A very interesting Planet of the Grapes dinner with François himself. Pale lemon-gold. Classic creamy new oak touch with fennel lift, over white peach fruit, with stony, flinty minerality. Mealy oak emerges, and a honey touch. Medium body, tight but rich, with crisp, chalky acidity. Classic Puligny cream, meal, white peach and chalkiness, 2011 looks like an under-valued vintage to me; François believes the press wrote it off.
