Nice gift from Huw. Just a shame the palate didn’t quite match up to the attractive and quite classic Cabernet Franc nose. Deep ruby colour – like the skin of a black cherry. Intensely aromatic nose, led by blackcurrant and some cherry, with pencil lead, cedar / toast and cinnamon spice, and a gently leafy, vegetal note. As it opens, a gravelly, smoky minerality emerges, alongside tobacco and blackberry. But far less complex on the palate, and actually a touch green. Savoury, medium bodied, medium or even medium+ acidity, chalky, medium tannins. Peppery, red-berry fruit and a mineral mid-palate, with a slightly green, bitter finish. 15.5 / 20.
