The first of my first ever en primeur Bordeaux rouge. Yet still youthful – a ‘sleeper’ as RP might say. Surprisingly still ruby – mid-depth core with only hints of garnet at the rim. Medium intensity pencil shavings and minerally savouriness, over a core of ‘polished’ blackcurrant fruit. Quite concentrated and somewhat complex. Medium+ body, medium acidity, medium+ intensity savoury dark fruit, and almost earthy spice. Fine-grained tannins push through the medium+ length finish, and these are notable enough to suggest another 5 years to peak in flavour and texture. Good. For the long haul.
