To celebrate New Year’s Eve dinner with Kev, Pete and Whippet, as the clouds over Mont Blanc cleared to reveal it in all its Moonlit glory! Originally to be a birthday present, this seemed like a better use of a bottle that had otherwise become surplus. Surprisingly pale for its 30 years – pale to mid-gold – and still with a decent bead. Aromas showing some oxidation but not too bad: more on the lactic end than nutty like the Bollinger Grande Année 1979. And still some lemony / apricot fruit in the background. Pretty good, all things considered, though I preferred the Bollinger.
