So quite by chance, we had this still rosé from Denbies, near Dorking, also on St. George’s Day! The day before, I’d gone to a meeting with the UK business of a former client, based in Dorking. Pulling into the station, I saw the impressive Denbies Vineyard. It was a beautiful Spring day, so having finished the meeting at 1.30, I went along to visit the estate. It is very well set-up for tourists, and the inside tour & tasting was very good. Sadly, the sparkling wines were disappointing, given that the North Downs (as the tour points out) are on the same soil as Champagne… But this slightly off-dry, yet balanced (acidity!), refreshing Pinot Noir / Dornfelder rosé was a classy wine. Wild strawberry and cherry aromatics, with a touch of lemon too on the palate. A bright salmon-pink. A good Summer quaffing rosé.
