A good deal this – 6 bottles at £22.50 vs RRP of £32 per bottle, from The Wine Society via Dante. And this bottle showed really well. Well enough in fact to merit (I think) a second Bolly NV appearance in my label collection! Pale to mid-gold with a persistent, fine bead after the fairly fine, tight mousse had subsided. Strong honey and apricot notes that I’m coming to associate with Bollinger, and hints of yeast and maybe biscuit? Some sweetness (richness?) to the nose too. Fairly rich orange / apricot fruit notes with a touch of creaminess on the palate, but still with dry, clean acidity. A great way to kick-off my 32nd birthday at 9.45am in the office. And an excellent match for the strawberry and crème patissière tart that Adriana had provided as my ‘birthday cake’! Great!
