This is the second Meerlust wine I’ve drunk (and their first white). My feeling is that they’re trying hard, but that it’s not quite working for my tastes. Having said that, this got better over a couple of days, perhaps as some oxygen opened-up the complexity. Medium yellow-gold, with a medium, watery rim. Intense opening hit of popcorn and corn-on-the-cob (malolactic and barrel fermentation?). Straw and buttered toast. Initially 1-dimensional, but lemon-citric fruit and increasingly honeyed character emerge over time, to balance it. Medium acidity, quite alcoholic palate, lacking fruit when cold, but buttery / toasty. Again, over 1-2 days, the (passion) fruit character emerges, with lemon and maybe pineapple. Much better after 2 days.
