Slightly out of place, this one, given that the “New Black Wine” was consumed on 30th December 2002, and this one after my London Marathon alcohol free period from 1st Jan – 13th April 2003! Anyway, this wine is a great value-for-money job. Ready to drink, but with decent complexity at £5. Deep red, without much purple edges. Aromas of jammy dark fruit, with hints of blackcurrant and possibly strawberry. Also plenty of pepperiness – even more so in flavour. Also fruit flavour to balance, with soft tannin and a little cleansing acidity. Very good.
